THE PROPERTY: The villa encompasses more than 2,000 square meters, or approximately 21,527 square feet, and contains many large reception rooms, a total of 13 bedrooms, and 13 bathrooms. The interiors feature such typical yet refined Tuscan finishes as vaults, frescoed or beamed ceilings, an ancient cotto floor, and fireplaces in local grey stone—each element combining to create an exceptional and historic atmosphere. Situated on the basement level are the stunning ageing cellars, which are completely excavated from rock with cross vaults in terra-cotta. The property also features a chapel in the Neo-Renaissance style dating to 1584, a perfectly restored 16th-Century stone farmhouse providing six bedrooms and three bathrooms, a swimming pool overlooking the Chianti countryside, and a tennis court. The buildings are nestled upon 120 hectares, or around 296 acres, that are divided into the park that surrounds the villa, eight hectares—nearly 20 acres—of Chianti Classico vineyards that produce a high-quality wine, six hectares, or roughly 14.8 acres of olive groves, and woods.
THE ARCHITECTURE: The façade comprises a central level rising above two lateral parts, and decorated by a gable with a large frame and a clock. It is possible to reach the first floor through a grand staircase composed of two flights separated by a landing. The windows are aligned except for the central window on the second floor, resulting in a great symmetry to the structure.
THE HISTORY: Chianti’s history has ancient origins that coincide with the first inhabitants of Tuscany. Indeed, it was the area where the Etruscans decided to settle, since is offered a mild climate, enchanting surroundings, and rich soil. The site of the villa was initially an Etruscan settlement and later a Roman settlement. The first written record of this unique property is a medieval document dating to 1033. In the 1400s, the land registry of Florence made reference to the area as a rural community, and it was within this community during the 18th Century that the villa was erected. In the later part of that century, the estate was purchased by the Strozzi family, historic enemies of the Medicis. At this time, the estate comprised 26 farmhouses and was already famous for its refined methods of wine production and conservation capacity. The villa was embellished successively over the years and these changes have resulted in the harmony of its current composition.
THE LOCATION: Immersed in the verdant countryside, positioned between the villages of Gaiole and Radda in Chianti, the estate is easily reachable from the main Italian cities. It is located 45 kilometers, about 28 miles, from Florence; 30 kilometers from Siena; 125 kilometers from Pisa International Airport; 142 kilometers from Perugia Airport; and 290 kilometers from Rome’s international airport.
