THE RESIDENCE: Island Time was built in the early 1980s and its design represents the collaborative effort between the owners and two local architects. The house comprises five separate bedroom suites connected to a communal point—the great room—via a system of passages that meanders around the giant boulders. The villa has been constructed using traditional island-style architecture and features white walls, wood-beamed cathedral ceilings, dark Brazilian wood floors and wardrobes, and Casablanca fans. Each bathroom has limestone tiling, modern plumbing, and ceramic washstands. Surrounded on three sides by a natural stone patio and swimming pool, the great room offers captivating views over Sir Frances Drake Channel, a shaded arbor for lounging, and a barbecue area for entertaining. This open and airy room includes a living room, dining room, games room, and library with a well-equipped kitchen. Three walls containing tall wood and glass doors, and towering windows provide breathtaking views and abundant natural light, while giant wooden beams support the enormous cathedral ceiling. The floors are cool stone. Steps at the side of the great room lead to the observatory, which also functions as an office. Each guest villa has an en suite bathroom and its own private patio and verandah. The High Noon master bedroom suite rests atop a giant granite boulder and overlooks the Sir Frances Drake Channel from its two private balconies. It boasts a spectacular stone master bath and a dressing room. The Sundance Room is the next largest bedroom and features a kitchenette and recreation room. A goldfish pond and all-weather tennis court with a shaded belvedere complete this delightful property.
THE LOCATION: The British Virgin Islands enjoys one of the highest standards of living in the Caribbean. An expanding offshore financial industry together with a tourist sector led by small exclusive resorts provide the Territory’s main source of income. Investors benefit from tax incentives including no capital gains tax or death duties and the advantages of the US dollar as the local currency cannot be underestimated.
