Access area:
By land:
Carretera Austral (southern highway) from Futaleufú, Chaitén or Balmaceda Airport (5 hrs drive).
The lodge is located 142 miles south of Chaitén and 160 miles north of Balmaceda, in the Aisén Region, in the Costal Temperate Rainforest.
The Carretera Austral is in the process of being paved, in one more year the road will be paved from Balmaceda up to the entrance of the Queulat National Park (18 mi north of the lodge). This will reduce the traveling time in about one hour.
By air:
The closest commercial airport is Balmaceda with 3 to 4 connecting flights a day.
There is a small airfield for light aircrafts, 15 mi north of the lodge and it is possible to charter planes from Puerto Montt or Coyhaique to the airfield.
By sea:
The lodge can be reach by boat, motor sailor, yatch. The lodge is located on the eastern end of the fjord and the fjord connects with the austral channels.
Property’s features that increases its commercial value:
It has 1,5 miles of the Queulat river shore, including its outflow into the sea, with good ponds for trout and salmon fishing
It has 3 miles of fjord shore that are possible to walk along and from where observation of marine wild life is possible; austral dolphins, sea wolves, sea birds and occasionally killer whales can be seen.
It has a good natural port for boats such as motorboats and eventually catamarans
Concessions for 3 buoys and 2 docks are in process of being granted, this will insure the exclusive access to the land by sea.
It has granted water rights from 3 streams that come from snow melting and glaciers. Concessions are for 10, 50 and 20 liters per second for consumption.
All the buildings have the town hall permissions; this allows the lodge to operate with no problem.
Land use for the property was changed allowing the division of the property into two lots: 12 acres for tourist use and 220 acres for land conservation and private park
Two miles of trails have been built into the virgin forest for hikes to enjoy the rainforest and learn about the trees, the “cathedral” groves, birds and native plants. The trail reaches a wonderful waterfall 394 feet high.
The trail also gives access to the sea shore and beaches.
River defences have been built to protect the property from river swelling. Also two drive in roads have been built to reach the lodge
A natural arboretum has been developed around the buildings with signs indicating the names of the trees.
Activities that can be developed around the lodge and in areas close to both the Queulat and Isla Magdalena National Park
Trekking on the glaciers: there are 7 glaciers in the Queulat National Park, two of which have a very easy access from the lodge: the Hanging Glacier and the Cesar glacier, this last one can be reached through the enchanted forest trail
Trekking into the rainforest: in the lodge property there are trails that goes into the virgin forest where many old and beautiful trees can be seen along with all the biodiversity of the coastal rainforest – this kind of forest can be found only in 5 other areas on earth, adding up to only 40 millions hectares.
The lodge is a paradise for sea kayaking lovers, they can takes many trips to the nearby fjords and channels, leaving directly from the lodge
Bird watching: many interesting birds can be observe inland in the forest or in tidal areas
Blue whales observation: navigating in the nearby channels there is a high probability to see one or more blue whales, the largest animal on earth and mostly unknown.
Fly-fishing: fishing can be done on the river that crosses the property, on the fjord and in many rivers close to the lodge that run into the sea. There is a large variety of fishes: rainbow, see brown trout, coho salmon, king salmon, Atlantic salmon, steelheads.
