The Round House in Wilton, Connecticut
Richard T. Foster, part of the generation who stamped German Modernism with the American perspective, juxtaposes avant-garde interior spaces with the exoteric pastoral environment. In this original 1968 creation, walled in glass, the native stone residence sits 12 feet above the ground and rotates 360-degrees on a fully automated cylindrical pedestal barely discernible from the interior ambience. Here, the resident can choose manifold panoramas of the 40 acres of conservation land adjacent to the estate’s own 3.8 acres. A two-year renovation project was completed in 2005 and incorporated Smart House technology into the nine-room main house and studio. Residence includes: Three bedrooms, two marble and limestone baths, custom ash cabinetry, herringbone flooring, Zenon interior lighting, a gunite lap pool, and a koi pond. The Round House is being offered at US$2,295,000 by Barbara Cleary's Realty Guild.
